Buildings Historical Significance
Built in 1871, the Rideau Mews is the oldest ‘residence’ remaining on Rideau Street. The structure has a vast history and serves today as authentic loft condominiums.
Heritage Designation and Architectural Design
511 Rideau (Rideau Mews) was given the designation of ‘historical significance’ in the early 1990’s. This means the building cannot be destroyed but the owners are free to renovate their space as they wish. Unit owners have restored many of the units to their original state.
511 Rideau is 2 stories with red brick and designed in ‘Georgian’ style.
Loft Conversion
511 Rideau (Rideau Mews) was converted into condominiums in 1999. Each unit is unique and offers a different feeling of original loft space. Many units feature: exposed original brick, original hardwood, high ceilings. Major renovations have taken place throughout the years causing the building to be in great structural shape.
